Which verb for this noun? (light version 1)

You are about to complete a survey developed as part of my doctoral research on verbs built from nouns (denominal verbs). This ongoing thesis project is entitled: “Construction and meaning of denominal verbs in English and French”.

This survey will take about 10-15 minutes. You can modify your answers until the questionnaire closes.

Denominal verbs are frequently found in English. For example, the verb weaponize comes from the noun weapon, subtitle is built on the noun subtitle, gamify comes from game, headbang from headbanging, or discaste from caste.

The aim of this survey is to gather the opinions of native English speakers (American speakers living in the US) on the construction of new verbs from nouns. There are no right or wrong answers, and only your intuition counts. You can leave comments if you’d like to give more information about your answers.

I’ve selected 4 nouns. For each noun, 6 questions will be asked. At the beginning of the questionnaire, a few questions are asked about you (gender, age, socio-professional status, etc.). The personal data collected as part of this survey will be anonymized in order to guarantee your anonymity and will only be used for scientific purposes. The data and results of this survey may be commercialized in the form of scientific productions (articles, books, etc.). Under no circumstances will your personal data be used for purely commercial purposes.

The information gathered from this questionnaire will be used solely for specific scientific purposes and will not be reused for any other purpose.

All data collected will be stored on a secure server owned by Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University. It will not be kept beyond the time required to complete the above-mentioned thesis project. Only members of the Centre d’Études Linguistiques - Corpus, Discours et Sociétés (CEL-AE 1663) will have access to this data.

In accordance with the RGPD (European regulation for data protection), you have the right to request the deletion of any data linked to you and collected through this questionnaire. If you would like further information about your rights, please contact the Data Protection Officer (DPO) of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University at dpd@univ-lyon3.fr.

By filling out this survey, you confirm that you agree to all the above information.

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to complete this survey.
